FBM Trident I and II

SDA engineers and subject matter experts support TRIDENT I and II Navigation, Life Extension, Microelectronics Engineering, Component Engineering, and Inter-Facility Transportation Equipment (IFTE) project tasks.  SDA experts with 20+ years individual experience monitor microelectronic manufacturers on a constant basis to identify material or process variations that could impact the TRIDENT Navigation System and Life Extension Programs.  Both significant and minor process or material changes have been noted, analyzed, and alternatives tested prior to the introduction of suspect components.  When necessary SDA develops detailed component analysis and testing processes, recommends alternate components, or proposes redesign to maintain reliability, maintainability, schedule, and cost avoidance requirements.  As a specific example SDA experts analyzed the impact of the removal of lead in microcircuits, providing early identification of concerns for TRIDENT and other high reliability DoD systems otherwise not understood or anticipated.

SDA designed, manufactured, and tested a heavy duty battery charger system for IFTE rail and highway equipment that transport TRIDENT 1 and II missile motors.  The battery charger maintains back up batteries that supply power in the event primary generator power is lost in transit.  The back up batteries supply emergency power for data logging, security, and call home features of a controller system that operates an environmental control system.  SDA engineers also support all IFTE electrical systems, rail rolling stock, and rail and highway missile shipping container systems.  SDA develops project plans and schedules, manages equipment repairs, and maintains IFTE action items.
